Technology

Pre-testing - what we do for all patients:
  1. Auto Refractor: provides an objective measurement of a person's refractive error and prescription for glasses and/or contact lenses. Tests for nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism.
  2. Non-Contact Tonometer (NCT) or “puff test”: uses a small puff of air to measure an eye's pressure. Tests for glaucoma and other conditions.
  3. Screener Visual Field: tests a patient’s periphery (side vision). Test for glaucoma and other conditions.
  4. Retinal camera: designed to obtain high resolution color images of the retina (back of the eye). Good to monitor conditions such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetes, etc…
Other equipment in our office:
  1. Full Humphrey Visual Field: larger version of the screener visual field for greater in depth peripheral (side vision) testing for glaucoma, plaquenil, tumors, strokes, droopy eye lids and several other conditions.
  2. Corneal Topography: is a non-invasive medical imaging technique for mapping the surface curvature of the cornea, the outer structure of the eye. An excellent tool to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of a number of conditions; in planning cataract surgery and intraocular lens (IOL); in planning refractive surgery such as LASIK, and evaluating its results; or in assessing the fit of contact lenses.
  3. Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT): is a technique for obtaining sub-surface images of translucent or opaque materials at a resolution equivalent to a low-power microscope. It provides imagery at much higher resolution, better than other imaging modalities such as MRI or ultrasound. Excellent machine in order to test for macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetes and many other conditions.
